Exploring Inner Process with Yoga and Art
An Approach to Compassionate Transformation
~ With Julie Plotkin ~

Adventuring into inner work can sometimes carry with it a subtly aggressive message: that something is wrong which needs to be fixed. Contrary to that message, Exploring Inner Process through yoga and expressive art, we enter our inner work just as we are, without the need to change. However, as process or experience unfolds, and as we listen compassionately, we begin to sense a deeper knowing. When we pay attention we will begin to integrate what we learn and notice how transformation spontaneously, and perhaps effortlessly, occurs.
During the first portion of the retreat, we’ll observe our inner experience through the practice of yoga and meditation. Alignment Yoga, a form of Hatha yoga, is a method based on the biomechanics of the body, and is therefore designed to work with the body as it is. These discerning yoga movements cultivate a sense of grounding, ease and potential in the body. In partnership with yoga and meditation, we will then explore inner process through multimodal, or the use of more than one method of, art creation.
By cultivating a fellowship with awareness, curiosity and kindness we will express our inner experience through the creation of visual art, writing, moving the body and/or sounding. Here, we let go of needing to create “a thing,” we rely less on thinking, and we let creativity flow forth.
All are welcome to participate; no previous yoga and/or art experience necessary.

MEET JULIE:
Julie Plotkin is a registered yoga instructor, expressive arts facilitator and professional organic gardener who is committed to helping clients bring ease and stability to their lives.
Her completion of a masters degree in Psychology in 2016, followed by her graduation in 2017 from the 500-hour Alignment Yoga teacher training program, provided her with intelligent and compassionate therapeutic tools.
When she isn’t teaching, pulling weeds or turning her kitchen table into a “creative mess,” Julie enjoys playing board games with her 10-year old son and exploring outdoors. She plans to continue teaching yoga, facilitate expressive art and yoga retreats, and to work collaboratively with our community members to help foster a sense of belonging for all people.
