"In a group of animals, a runt is a member which is smaller or weaker than the others. Due to its small size, a runt faces obvious disadvantages, including difficulties with competing with its siblings for survival and possible rejection from its mother. Therefore, a runt is less likely to survive infancy."
This is my loving tribute to the "Little Guy with the Big Heart" who didn't make it. I loved him; I miss him; I'm honored I was able to witness the few, brave weeks of his life.
Maybe he touched my heart in a special way because he reminds me of myself. A little misplaced, hanging out on the fringes of this hectic world, but with a crazy resolve to make it just as I am: a little slower, more sensitive, challenged by the rough and tumble, busy nature of life.
"What makes you vulnerable, makes you beautiful" ~ Brené Brown
Everytime I look at my pictures of this special little guy, I cry. My world is a little sadder without him in it.
I believe the "runts" of the world are beautiful - they teach us to be gentler, kinder, more patient and tolerant, to root for something above and beyond survival of the fittest. Rest in peace, my dear, little one.
